Customer Service

Good service is made up of the staff and how they treat you and your guests, and also how the course is designed for usability. Which means, how easy it is to drop off your bag, check in and pay, buy tees or golf balls that you may need, use the driving range, and play your round, will show the usability of a course.

The services rated are :

• Their bag drop off area
• How you are greeted
• Check in and pro shop
• Clubhouse and restaurant (if any)
• Driving range
• On the course while playing your round

Along with your round you have to take in effect the ease to get to each next hole, order food at the turn after nine holes, and eat in the clubhouse after your round or just to get a drink.

Overall Conditions

Some of the things people remember the most from a high quality golf course are the conditions of the course. When a course has plush green fairways and flows right into desert, water, or forest, it makes a big impact in they way you’ll remember it.

The conditions we take into account are :

• The clubhouse and course entrance
• Driving range
• Tee boxes
• Fairways
• Greens
• Hazards

We always take into effect if a course is aerating their greens, as long as they giver proper notice to members and guests, and greens fees are discounted during that time frame. There is nothing worse than a course not telling you they are aerating, or still charge you full price.

Undulations / Bends

Whether a golf course is flat or has high undulations up and down, they can still be beautiful and a challenge to play. The intimidation factor of trying to hit from hillside to hillside or just over a 150 yard wide 100 yard deep gulley makes a big difference in what club you’ll use, and how you’ll remember the course.

We look for :

• Big hills and mountains
• Valleys and gullies
• Long or short straight aways
• Tight or slight dog legs

The main focus is use of the land and how well it improves or takes away from the game. Many courses don’t have some features so we don’t penalize a course just because it is flat or straight. We focus on overall experience and playability.
 

Views / Environment

Being able to see beautiful views on a golf course has a very powerful effect on your experience. Half the reason people play golf is to get outside and get away from their busy lives. If you are going to take 4 ½ to 5 ½ hours to play, you want to be able to experience the most possible.

We look for :

• Mountain views
• Distance city views
• Waterfalls, streams, ponds or lakes
• Desert views
• Wildlife
• Forests and foliage

You can have a good round of golf anywhere, but they are not normally the rounds you remember. “I shot a 90 one time….but I can’t remember where it was…” IF you had played at a course where you could see LA on one hole and Anaheim from another with huge mountain views, you would remember.

Overall Difficulty

When rating a golf course’s difficulty you have to remember that everyone whom plays the game will prefer a different level of challenge. We focus on a good challenge that is more payable for average players and above.

Difficulty of a course is made up of :

• Length of the holes
• Tee box placement
• Having narrow or wide fairways
• Height differences from tee to pin
• Hazard placement
• Their green’s size, levelness, and speed

If a course is too hard we note it and may even rate it lower. Overall playability needs to be a challenge or you will get bored; but rather if it’s too hard it can frustrate even the more experienced players.

Green Fees

We rate a golf course’s green fees completely by their overall value. If the green fees are too high and the course or service isn’t good enough than it will be rated low. On the other hand if the course has cheap green fees and the course is nice than we will rate it high.

To rate high for green fees the course needs :

• Can’t be too high unless it has unparallel service & conditions
• Can’t be too low unless the conditions are well over the cost
• Offering discount ‘club cards’, semi-memberships, or other discounts

The focus is on a good balance of overall cost for the round, driving range, food, and beverages. We don’t want anyone to simply say “Oh that costs less so it must not be as nice” or even “Oh that costs too much it’s not worth it”, because they are both possible. Unless you have played any of these courses would never be able to know.
