This public course is very easy to get to from just about anywhere in Orange County, and  and is very easy to navigate through when on the course. Located in Irvine right off the 405 freeway, Rancho San Joaquin has views of distance mountains and the Irvine skyline. Well a few Irvine office buildings, and a few really pretty holes.

Above is a picture of a bee hive we saw on the side of a fairway. Hitting from the ruff we heard this buzzing and then we saw it a few feet away. Click the image to see a bigger photo. Some of the trees at Rancho San Joaquin are quite beatiful, the above row of red trees was a good example.

Our experiances at Rancho San Joaquin have vary, but a few things have stayed the same. The customer service has never been up to the average course we visit, and their greens are a lot better than you would expect.

Surprisingly the greens can take strokes from your game. You have to find the pin, pick which tear of the green you want to land on, and hope that you stay up, or down on the correct level. They like to have the pin right on the down slope or edge of tear. It can be quite frustrating when you miss by an inch and the ball carries 5-10 feet past the hole downhill.

You may make it on the green in 2 or 3 but you have to bring your 'A-Game' to close the deal and sink the putts. The greens have extreme angulations, and are quite fast. Make sure to take your time and pick your line wisely.
