This public course is back in the valleys away from most everything out in Riverside. It can be very quite at times with nothing to hear but nature. The views can be quite stunning and the level of play is very challenging.

When you first arrive at Hidden Valley golf course you park in front of the clubhouse, and to the left of you is the driving range. At the range you are hitting into a hillside, with small cliff side flats with flags. It's nice the way the sun hits the range in the morning as your warming up, great way to start your round.

2. Bring every club in your bag
3. Hope for a day without too much wind
4. Make sure to use the GPS on the cart

The dog legs around the mountain sides, and desert are tuff to pick a club with. Make sure to use the golf cart GPS, included with green fees. Some holes you might want to lay-up on because of water, or a gulley. This public course has very intimidating par 3's, huge gullies that you have to go straight over. The 5th hole is a tuff one for a golfer not used to angulations. And the 16th is a "Kodak Moment", to say the least.

Be very careful about weather at this course, it rarely rains in Southern California, but the wind can really pick up in the Norco valleys, enough where you have to have a very strong will to continue and finish your round.

The first time we played Hidden Valley, one reviewer in our group got a hole-in-one on the 13th, so he was very happy that day, the rest of us had a wonderful time. But a few times later, we got hit with wind around 25-40 miles an hour. Enough were you hit the ball onto the green, and the wind blows the golf ball off the side of the cliff.

The day in the wind we didn't keep score but we finished the day. We even hit the longest drives of 2 of our careers; one was about 335 yards, and the other was over 360 yards. The first drive was at the 9th tee, landed right in the middle of the fairway and about 60-70 yards away from the green. The second was on the same hole and it cleared the fairway on the ninth hole, coming down to the clubhouse, sat in the ruff with a short 30-40 yard chip to the green over the gulley.
