What is a golf forecaddie ?
Many terms get used over the years some fade away and some stand the test of time all together. When referring to a "forecaddie", it seems that it’s use is limited, since it’s not something that is offered or possible at many courses.Â
The more obvious part of the word “forecaddie� is caddie, or is it actually “caddy� ? It might be a simple answer to some people but kind of confusing to others.A "caddy" is basically what you use to organize, hold, or wheel around your golf clubs. A “caddie� is someone whom helps the golfer with their clubs, course play, distance judgments, etc.
I get the caddie part, but what is a “forecaddie� ?
Well think about a ship’s fore and aft (front and rear), so it basically means forward or ahead, which gives you a forward caddie. This caddie will help you pick which club to use and then go ahead down the fairway to help see where you ball lands. Then you can rest assured that there is a much better chance of finding your ball.
Some of us wish forecaddies were at every course, included with the greens fee. But it’s not going to happen !
A few holes come to mind at local Southern California public golf courses that a fore caddie would be absolutely perfect.
This hole pictured above at Talega golf course is completely blind, they don’t have cart GPS like offered at Tustin Ranch, nor do they have forecaddies. If they did maybe we wouldn’t loose so many balls. 
We wonder how many golf balls over the years we would have never lost if we had forecaddies spotting ? Would it be hundreds or thousands ?
One of the most frustrating things that can happen while golfing, is hitting a great shot but still not being able to find your ball.
Whether it hits a sprinkler head and bounces into the ruff, or it just keeps rolling where you couldn’t see and ended up just out of site. But if there were someone up there to see, there wouldn’t have been a lost ball or a penalty and drop.
