Playing Beach Front Golf
Commonly misunderstood golf terms come up a lot, and "The Beach" is something that non-golfers don't get. See there are rarely beaches on a golf course nor could you play that well on an acutal beach.
But the term exists it and simply, the "Beach" is a bunker, or sand trap.

The sand is one thing that about every golfer avoids, and regrets taking a "trip to the beach". If playing with friends, and they see you land in a bunker, you might hear "Are you going to build sand castles ?. Friends can be ruff
But what is Beach Front Golf ?
Playing Beach Front golf you are in a sand trap that flows into a water hazard, so you have to be lucky just to stay in the trap without rolling in to the water. A great example of beach front bunker is at Coyote Hills Golf Club in Fullerton, CA. As seen below in the 9th hole which is a par 4 right in front of the clubhouse.

Yet another example with this par 3 at Coyote Hills below.

Every golf course has different quality sand, and that makes a huge difference when trying to get out, and how it effects your lie. Out of all the SoCal public courses there are many with extremely high quality sand in their traps and knowing this before playing there might change what course you will want to play. When you play at a cousre and the sand is like from the Bahamas, you really feel like you're at the beach.
Some good examples of "Big Beaches" with great sand are at Talega Golf Course (seen below) and the Coyote Hills (as seen above).

Some of the best sand in Southern California has to be at Talega country club. They recently upgraded their sand right before our last visit. The sand is just like being on a tropical beach somewhere. Some of the sand bunkers at Talega are so big and tall that it's hard to see out of them once caught inside.
